Fine Art Appraisal & Valuation

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who is the artist?

Is my artwork real?

What is my artwork worth?

Please try to provide us with as much information as possible.  We will help you find out the artists details wherever possible, however there are thousands of artists who are not publicized and this can be tough even for us. Therefore we ask you to provide any documentation that accompanied the artwork at point of purchase.
Sometimes, artworks turn out to be copies or attributed to the artist which can and may cause confusion.  We will give our expert opinion on your artwork without bias.  This can also happen in the opposite. You may have a treasure that was mistaken for a copy or another artist's artwork.
The million dollar question so to speak.
Unfortunately, sometimes art is priced within the wrong market and the client thinks they have a very highly priced artwork which may not be the case.  There can be more than one value depending on the varying market conditions at the time. If an artist has become noted, it doesn't always mean their artworks are worth a fortune-the same applies if an artist is deceased. Of course there are exceptions to the rule.

I bought my artwork directly from the artist

what does quality mean?

An independent artist in Alice Springs or surrounding area that is painting for his/herself may not provide a Certificate of Authenticity or a serial code like commercial galleries or dealers would.  They may not even sign the artwork.  When it comes to selling the painting, this proves very difficult as the provenance of an artwork is really the finger print and most re-sellers /dealers/ auction houses/major galleries won't look at it without some form of proof that it is the artists original work.  We may be able to help with identifying the artist.
Some people perceive quality as in 'neatness' of the artwork.  Quality is usually associated with the materials used firstly,  but then also the many factors that go into producing an artwork.  Factors to consider:  the significance of the artist, quality comparison to other similar artworks from the same time period/style/story/dreaming.  Some small private studios may provide sub par materials for the artists to use to cut on cost therefore increases profits to be made at point of sale.

where can I sell my artwork?

There will be many deciding factors such as to who and where you can sell your artwork.  Basics such as the quality of the artwork or if it is a good representation of the artists work are important. Is the artwork well provenanced?  Is your asking price reasonable in the current market?  Selling platforms are wide and varied. These are things we can discuss you with.
